Few hours flight from most of Europe, Athens is a destination that can combine everything one may need..sightseeing, culture, gastronomy, amazing nightlife and cocktail bar, beaches and fun!
Spring is a great time of year to visit Athens. The mild temperatures are perfect for sightseeing and the sun is less intense so you wont burn so much. On the meantime shiny days attract people at the beach side, either for a walk or for sunbathing.
Many of the tourist hotspots are outdoors so the spring climate is definitely more comfortable. Temperature varies from 16-20 C ideal for sightseeing and walking to the old city of Athens day and night!
In Athens, during daytime, one can hang around to the historical points (Acropolis, Ancient Market, Kalimarmaro Stadium, Roman Agora, Temple of Olympian Zeus, National Gardens, Theatre of Dionysus, Kerameikos, Plaka). Continue, visiting a local Greek cuisine taverna and don’t give up till you enter the lively nightlife of Athens, starting from Athens till any local residence.
If i was asked what to do apart from the historical sightseeing…..you name it!
Check out Stavros Niarchos foundation cultural center for live music events or just go for a coffee at the roof top cafe/restaurant!
Don’t miss my favorite walk at Athens Riviera from Paleo Faliro – Flisvos Marina, nice to end up to the marina for a tea!
For shopping i would say Glyfada is my area and then again take a nice walk to the beach and enjoy a nice brunch at any of the cafes.
Absolutely lovable the walk from Mikro Kavouri towards Vouliagmeni, stop at any of the beaches for a swim and end up to Vouliagmeni square to have some sea food and just relax and admire the sea.
Last but not least either take the bus or rent a car and visit Saronida’s various small beaches and walk from the sea side pedestrian’s path until Mavro Lithari beach and then stop at my favorite beach bar for a cocktail.
Continue your trip to Legrena beaches and end your trip towards the South part to Sounio, visit the Temple of Poseidon, walk to the beaches around and don’t miss visiting any of the beach front Greek taverns with delicious Greek food….
I love being Athenian!
